Life Story for James L "Jim" Newberry

James L "Jim"  Newberry
James Lacy Newberry (Jim), 69, of Mounds Oklahoma passed away and was reunited with Barbara Ann Newberry May 10, 2013, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
The funeral service will be held 10:30 Thursday at Mounds First Baptist Church. Long time and respected friend Dick Knox of Mounds First Baptist Church will be officiating. Visitation will begin Tuesday 9:30 at Green Hill Funeral Home in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Burial will follow the funeral at Oakwood Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Green Hill Funeral Home.
James Lacy Newberry was born in Oakland, California on March 23, 1944. He graduated from Kiowa High School.
Jim moved to Mounds after graduation where he met Barbara Ann Green. Jim and Barbara married on March 27, 1964. Jim and Barbara were separated by death after 47 years.
Jim worked in the oil refining business for Gulf, Texaco, and Sinclair corporations providing for his family until his retirement. He enjoyed collecting and storing rust colored items of any type. However, tractors and farm equipment were his favorites. He was also actively involved in the Mounds School System and served fifteen consecutive years on the Mounds School Board. Jim was a long time member of the Mounds Fire Department and the Mounds Civil Defense. Jim held officer positions in both and served as Fire Chief prior to his retirement.
James Lacy Newberry was preceded in death by his wife: Barbara Ann Newberry, father: J.V. Newberry, brothers: Jerry Newberry and Bill Newberry.
Jim is survived by his mother: Helen Newberry of Wardville: sons: Jimmy and Deanna Newberry of Mounds, Steven and Terry Newberry of Mounds and Richard and Laura Newberry of Shawnee: grandchildren: Lacey and Nick Harris of Kiefer, Audra Newberry, Lindsay Newberry, Sydney Newberry, Nathan Newberry, Natalie Newberry, Robert and Heather Grey of Mounds, Olivia Grey, Wyatt Grey, Kaleb Grey, numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
The family of Jim Newberry wishes to thank all of those who have shown unwavering support for Jim after the loss of Barbara and during his battle with cancer.
