Life Story for Lela P. "Polly" Blackburn

Lela “Polly” Blackburn passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 21, 2014, as a result of a terminal illness. Polly was born on August 20, 1952 in Tulsa, OK. She was the daughter of William Strange and Betty Lou (Hinton) Pryor. She graduated from Hominy High School and went on to become a Navy wife and mother of two daughters, April Dawn and Kristina Roseanne.

Polly was employed as the Youth Director of Sahoma Lanes for 30 years where she knew everyone on a first name basis. She took such pride as the assistant coach for the Sapulpa High School boys bowling team. Polly cared for every member of that team as if they were her own. She never met a stranger; she loved to talk to anyone and everyone.

Polly was a regular at Java Dave’s and if she wasn’t there then she definitely had a McDonald’s mocha frappe in hand making her rounds around town in her sparkly frog shirts and jewelry. You could often find her at the Tulsa Shock basketball games giving it all she had to the opposing team’s coaches, looking for a new scent at the Yankee Candle store or sneaking off to the casino.

Polly will be reunited with many well loved lost family members and is survived by brother Kelly Strange of Pawnee, OK; two daughters, April Blackburn and Kristina Blackburn of Sapulpa, OK; nephew Jason Edwards of Tulsa, OK; great-nephew Sam Edwards; and great-niece Mary Edwards of Tulsa, OK; nephew Josh Edwards of Sapulpa, OK; and nephew Chris Edwards. And for the many friends, “adopted” children and grandchildren in Polly’s life, “blood couldn’t make us any closer.”

Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, June 27, 2014 at Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 26th from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm at Green Hill Funeral Home. The family has entrusted the services to the directors at Green Hill Funeral Home. 918 224-2312 / www.greenhillok.com
