Life Story for
LeRoy Linn Layer
LeRoy Linn Layer of Mounds, OK, the son of Harry and May Belle Layer, was born on July 5, 1933 in Collinsville, OK. He passed away to Heaven on July 23, 2014 at the age of 81.
LeRoy married Imogene Haney of Sapulpa on February 4, 1955. They had four children. He is survived by sons LeRoy Linn Layer, II and wife Lori Layer of Chelsea, OK; James Layer of Mounds; daughters, Kathy Simmons and husband Robert of Miami, OK; and Marie Layer and husband Ronald Mozingo of Sand Springs, OK; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters Betty Combs and Luella Carter.
LeRoy served in the U.S. Marines Corp for 12 years and received an honorable discharge in December 16, 1960. He served as a combat engineer during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Combat Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 stars, Navy Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Rifleman Medal and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation.
LeRoy worked for American Airlines for 18 years as an Aircraft Instrument Mechanic. He enjoyed family, friends, hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. He was a Lifetime Member of the V.F.W. Post 3077 in Collinsville, OK.
He will be missed but not forgotten.
